Found a "Trim Guard & Wallpaper Smoother" by Red Devil- picked it up at K-Mart for $5.99 in the painting supplies area. It is over 16" long with another section that is angled off the back of it that is about 6" long, plastic (red). I just washed it very well before using. It is GREAT for larger diameter cakes- I can smooth the entire surface in one swipe! Love it! thumbs_up.gif

I use a 6" wide putty smoother for my smaller cakes. I didn't know they made a really wide one. Thanks for the tip!

I tried using a metal Straight Edge, but found it to be too heavy and awkward to hold. This is nice and light and the shape allows you to get a nice grip on it while keeping your fingers out of the way.

I just bought a couple of 6 inch ones at Home Depot, and love the way they work. Now, I'm going to have to look for the really big one! Thanks for the tip. PAT

Wish I could post a photo- husband out of town with the digital camera!
It is red plastic, shaped like a V with one side much shorter than the other. One side is 16" long, the other only 6". It is basically just a nice LONG straight edge. It's nice to not have to go back to make several swipes at the cake top when trying to smooth it.
Hope that helps!
