I am sure there are many of you who have the same problem. I've had this problem from before I started decorating cakes. But now it seems to be getting worse. I'm 39 and the rest of me is still working really good... Just worried that I won't be able to keep decorating cakes... Well okay maybe thats not an option (too much of a cake addict to quit). But I do know that I will be in alot of pain doing it, especially if this get any worse. Any suggestions?

Thanks.... was starting to think it might be arthritis..... grey hair is coming in so naturally thats where my mind takes me. I'll check to see what I can find out and maybe I'll even talk to the doctor about it.

Yes I have to use the wrist brace sometimes, it helps take some pressure off...doesn't take the pain completely away but helps you go longer without stopping.

Fondant is a good solution. haha.

I don't have wrist problems, however I do know how the pain gets. I broke my back last summer and was off work for six mos. Doctor says back will never mend (broken vertabra) and that it will always be broken. So now when I do cakes, about every 30-45 mins. I have to go lay on the couch until my back pain lets up, then back to the cake.
I enjoy decorating so I just tolerate the pain since there is nothing I can do about it.

Yes, the braces help. They provide support.

Carpul Tunnel is not something that comes and goes...once ya got it, ya got it for good.

Try wearing the brace every night when you sleep, I find it to be a tremendous help during the day if I do.

Yes, the braces help. My husband has it and wears them at night and the next day is better than if he didn't wear them! Taking pain medication before doing projects helps also!

I think you just need to take precautions when doing your cake decorating so that you don't over exhort yourself! Take the precautions and have fun!!!

Welcome to the world of repetitive stress injuries. If your index and middle finger go numb it is carpul tunnel. If the pain is on the top of your wrist and a lump is noticable it is a ganglion cyst. By day, I am an ultrasound tech, so I am very familiar with both conditions. I wear a brace at night when I am sleeping. In the past I tried to work with a brace but the stress just transfered to my elbow and shoulder.

I notice mine flares up when I have to knead alot of fondant. I'll be trying crusting BC this weekend
Talk to your doctor to see which anti-inflammitory is best for you, I like Aleve.
Take frequent brakes when possible and take advantage of the mechanical help available such as a stand mixer, turntable. good luck.
