Can we all agree that every cake recipe will make APPROX the same amount of cake? So my question is - how many people will a cake feed?
I can put the same amount of cake batter into a 8", 10" or 12" pan, and they'll all come out different heights (obviously)... So I'm thinking I should add another half batter recipe to fill up the larger cake pans. So I guess my question really is:
How many people will a 6", 8", 10" and 12" cake that's 3" high feed? And so making 2 layers (not torting) will double the amount of people it will feed? Filling and icing would make it taller, but I'm talking about just the cake.
I really need to sit chart out costs of ingredients and people per cake for more accurate pricing... I keep selling myself short.
Thanks for your help!
I believe if you check a Wilton Yearbook (maybe even on their website) they have volume amounts (how many cups for each size/shape pan you are using) and serving amounts in them. Please note that, in my opinion, they promise far too many servings out of a cake than you really get. You can adjust it to what you think is fair. At one time, there was a more reasonable serving chart at www.earlenescakes.com. You could check there also.
