I covered my board with fondant because I couldn't find a pink foil that looked good. When I picked up my fully assembled 3 tier cake to put it in the box, I broke the fondant. I had to take it all off. icon_mad.gif

NOW WHAT???? I dont' know what I'm going to do. It's sitting on a brown masonite board covered in contac paper. How would you handle this? I can't move the cake and cover it in foil. It's a 3 tier cake totally assembled.

I ruined my diet by going off in a huff to eat cake scraps and have a drink to cool off, or I was going to do myself a mischief. icon_cry.gif

Would maybe taking it to the venue and icing out the board with buttercream work? THen put the ribbon around the edge like I originally planned?

Exactly what I was thinking except try royal icing instead of the BC.

Yes, we used royal in Bakery too, it goes on smoother.

Did your board flex and break the fondant? I use 3/4" particle boards, they won't flex. Then I glue 3/4" ribbon trim around the edge.

I was using masonite, only about 1/4 in thick. It wasn't the flexing that broke it, my fingers caught it as they were slipping out from under it. I ended up icing out the board in buttercream and piping pink dots on it like the rest of the cake, then putting my ribbon back on. I'll post pics when I get them processed.

I use sticky furniture sliders under my foam core boards. They make room for my fingers to slide under the board.

I put 'cleats' = little legs (?) glued under my board for big/heavy cake. It could be bottle lids, same size or cork. HTH.
