Freezing Cream Cheese?

Does anyone buy cream cheese in bulk and freeze it? I'd read you can do it with butter, so I'm doing that now. Seems like cream cheese would work too.

I buy it in bulk, cut in 1 pound blocks and put in freezer bags with a little milk added. It dries out and crumbles in the freezer with out it. One warning, don't freeze too long. I also freeze butter with out any extra effort. I buy it by the case in 1 pound blocks.

I've never frozen cream cheese. Butter works fine. Heavy cream does not freeze well or I just did it wrong.

on the box i buy my cream cheese in...it says NOT to freeze it. It canges the texture of it resulting in a graing product. i would reccomend that you do not freeze it.

Freezing cream cheese is fine. It's true the texture will change, but the final result will be fine once you start to cream it with butter and sugar to make the frosting. I've never had a problem. You just can't use it as a spread.

When heavy cream was on sale, my mother used to make whipped cream rosettes on waxed paper, freeze them on trays and then package them when solid. That way she had whip cream toppings for desserts.
