Hello all...Happy Friday,

I have been working on various pieces of a Transformer Cake I have due on Saturday. It is going to be a 3-D head of the character Optimus Prime. So far I have the cake stacked, filled, iced....tonight on go the fondant and fondant accents.

I have left the fondant white for the pieces that are going to be silver...my plan was to mix luster dust with vodka and paint. Will the white still show through? How might I combat this from happening.

Any input will be appreciated. I am starting to do my pre-decoration freak-out!!!!

The white won't show through if the consistency of the mixed dust is heavy enough. I like it to be about the texture of unwhipped cream. Too thick and it looks globby, too thin and it streaks and doesn't cover well. Not sure if you are looking for more of a dull metal silver color or a shiny chrome. If it is shiny you want mix 2 parts Nu Silver, 1 part Super Pearl and then thin with alcohol.

I just used nu-silver on my latest cake. I just added a smidgen of black to the white fondant and kneaded it unti it was slightly gray, Then the luster dust mixed with lemon juice. Worked awesome and the star looked great. Too too great picture of it in my gallery because the light isn't shining off of it but it was a nice shiny silver.

Good luck with your Transformer cake thumbs_up.gif

Next time I use gold or nu sliver I will be tinting my fondant underneath. I had streaking, which showed the white underneath. Of course, I do need to get a nicer paint brush and that will help with the streaking too. But to safeguard it, next time I will color the fondant=) Jen
