I was looking at my Debbie Brown book, the first one I've ordered and waited months to recieve, and it has gum tragnacinth (sp) listed as an ingredient in making gumpaste. Does anyone know where to buy this?

Also is this the stuff you mix with the fondant for modelling figures? I'm totally new at this can you tell?

gum trag i believe is the same as wilton's gum tex. its $8 for a big can of it, but i would get it with their 40% off coupon. can't beat that deal. i often mix a tbsp or two into my mmf for gumpaste. its easy to work with (easier than the wilton recipe, IMHO) and easy to make.

I'm no expert but from what I've read, mostly hear is that gum-tex and gum trag are two different types of gums that do similar jobs. I don't know the difference between them. I got gum trag at a cake supply store in the fondant/gumpaste isle.

they are interchangeable - they both do the same thing. Gum tex is probably more easily found. gum tragnacinth comes from countries in the middle east where import/export can be problematic.
