Why?Why??? icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gif I made the sole of the shoe more than 24 hours ago and is barely dry? I don't think I'll get it done by sunday, I really wanted to do this cake for my MIL... icon_cry.gificon_cry.gificon_cry.gif
Do you have any suggestions on how to acelerate the gumpaste drying time?? icon_sad.gif
I also was thinking on replacing the shoe for a tiara, have the shoebox semi open with the tissue paper coming out and on top of the shoe box cover put the tiara, my question is what should I use to make the tiara? I'll make it tomorrow and I don't know if I should use royal icing or candy melts or what? Would I be able to paint with luster or pearl dust on candy melt? I would appreciate instructions or sugestions on that icon_rolleyes.gif
Don't you hate when you have a plan and everything seems to go wrong??
I hope I don't have any problems with the purse, I'll carve it tomorrow and see how it goes, wish me luck!!

I've heard of people putting the gumpaste into the oven for faster drying, just with the light on. Maybe it's really humid at your place. Blowing a fan on it might accelerate the drying as well. Good luck on your cake

Does the sole of the shoe have any air circulating under it? If it's flat on a hard surface, it will take longer to dry. I place my gum paste pieces on the back (flat side) of a piece of egg crate foam.

You can put the gum paste piece under a heat lamp--at least 2 feet away from the bulb--or in the oven/microwave with the door open enough so that the light stays on.

You can make the tiara out of royal or candy melts. I think the royal would be easier. You can dry dust either with luster dust, or paint royal with luster dust mixed with lemon extract.

Good Luck!

I dried my tiara around an empty coffee can.

From a post here on CC by carrielynnfields:

Just tape your design to the straight side of a glass, bowl, tupperware container etc...depending on the size you need, make sure there is no lip or flare on the structure. Tape waxed paper over that and pipe using a #2,3, or 4 again depending on the size you need. Allow to dry and then pipe over that! Do this AT LEAST 3 times, I suggest 4-5 for really good structure. Make sure that many of the lines are touching eachother to give added support

When I make shoes, I start about 5 days ahead of time to allow plenty of time for the heels and soles to dry.

If you move them before completely dried they will crack.

I put a paper towel roller to prop up the sole to the heel and allowed it to sit untouched for about 3 days.
