Ok I am finally making the cupcakes for my nephew tomorrow (doing the toppers tonight so they dry) and I'm going to fill the cupcakes with this dark choco truffle mousse I bought (dr oetker)- found it at the store last week and I only have one box-I should have bought 2 lol). ANyway I was contemplating amongst other ideas to make the cupcake icing match the filling- so I Wonder if I added a bit (not much) of the instant mousse dessert mix to my BC recipe if any of you have any ideas on the outcome- before I find out by trial and error tomorrow lol. I dont plan on using a lot. And I have dutch cocoa to add to the BC as well. I am looking at the list of ingredients on the instant mousse mix and it doesnt look like anything that would chemically alter the state of the BC to make it not work? But then I'm an icing novice and dont know exactly LOL

Any ideas? Most of the box will end up mixed as per directions to use as filling (the original concept was to mix the whole box and then scoop some of it into the BC and stir together- but I think that would be more risky to the BC than just adding the powder itself.

TIA

I'm sorry I've never tried mixing mousse w/ BC. I'm not sure what you mean by making the BC "match" the filling... do you mean tastewise or colorwise? I'm not sure you'll be able to match the taste, but you can always add some brown coloring to it. I know others add jam to their buttercream, maybe mousse would work?
Anyway, here's a bump...

sorry i wasnt really clear on that- I wanted the flavour to match - filling and icing both. At least somewhat- cause I'd be adding the powder to the BC so it's not going to be just straight mousse-
or maybe I could just buy another box of the mousse and use that but I dont think that'd crust/set well like BC even though it looks 'solid ' on the box lol
