I need to make a chocolate/vanilla swirl cake this weekend. Does any one have any tips or suggestions?

I just alternate dropping in choc/vanilla by the 1/2 cupfuls or so, then run a spoon through the whole thing in a swirl. Don't mix it to much though, you won't be able to tell it is a marble cake.

There are a couple of things you can do. First, make your vanilla cake batter and reserve about 1 cup (for a single recipe) and add either chocolate syrup or melted, cooled chocolate chips, about 1/2 cup. Pour this over the vanilla cake in the pan and then swirl with a small icing spatula or fork.

I have also just added the melted chocolate to the vanilla cake batter still in the bowl and blended slightly. This doesn't give quite as much of a marble effect, but it does work. It's a good short cut when you're running low on time.
