Hi, I am wanting to start baking cookies and decorating them but I don't really know where I can get a Large Cookie Sheet at? Do you guys just use the standard cookie sheet that you would buy in Walmart? Aslo, what cookie cutters does everyone prefer plastic or metal ones?

Thank You,
Stacy

I'm also new in cookie baking. I use the silver cookie tray from Walmart and I have purchased several metal cutters online very inexpensive and those are the ones I use and so far so good. I'm still on trial basis but I have made three batches, and let me tell you my mail carrier, trash collector and Meter Reader (LOL) have loved them.

I prefer pans that don't have sides, or just slightly upturned ends. The ones I use are made by WearEver, I think. They are teflon coated, which others have advised not using, but they work great for me. Better than the special cookie sheets I bought recently! Find what you like, and buy at least four of them. You'll save tons of time if you don't have to wait for the pans to get out of the oven and cool down before using again.

I only have two pans but my oven doesn't hold more. I use one that is teflon coated and one that isn't. Both seem to work the same for me. I agree that you should have enough pans that you don't have to wait for the cookies to cool. You can buy pans that work well at Walmart or I have a Wilton one that is actually from Target. It doesn't work any better than my other pan though.

I definitely prefer the metal cutters. I think they cut better, in my opinion. I buy mine at a specialty grocery store and a cake decorating store, both of which I'm lucky to have. If you don't have one of those near you, Michaels carries some (not too many though), and you can get them pretty inexpensively online.

Welcome to the cookie world!

I like the insulated non-stick pans (I find these work better in my oven (not sure if its because it is a convection oven). I prefer plastic cookie cutters because they never lose their shape. Maybe I'm too tough on my cutters (?) because it seems I occasionally need to reshape the metal ones slightly.

Take a look at this topic that was posted not long ago about cookie sheets. You will find a lot of different opinions on what people use and why they use them.

As for the cutters, I really like the copper ones, but I have all kinds. It all depends on what shape I want and what I can find it in.

I like the jellyroll/cookie sheet pans with a good lip on them, I use them for drying the cookies too because I can stack them turned opposite directions to save space.
I prefer metal cutters but plastic are fine if that's all you have. Until you know you like it or until you have a good basic collection the tin are fine, I haven't had the money to buy many copper ones yet.
These sites have cutters:

I use cookie sheets with out sides. I bake all my cookies on parchment.

The only thing i can advise about buying new sheets is to measure your oven first. you don't want to go out and buy some beautiful big sheets to find that they don't fit in your oven.

Oh yeah, i like metal cutters, but do use plastic occassionaly. I like the cutters open, i don't like the ones that are closed on the top and imprint the cookie when you cut the dough
