What Kind Of Chocolate Used To Coat Cake Balls?

I just use Wilton candy melts to cover mine with. They come in a lot of colors. Dark, light, and white chocolate flavored.
My first batch of cake balls were a bust!...too soggy. But I have made truffles before, and I dip them in 1/2 semi sweet choc and 1/2 milk choc. I make sure they are cold, dip them, let them set up and chill, then dip them again. It gives a good solid outer shell. Maybe that will help. That's what I'd planned on doing if my cake balls had turned out. I'll have to wait for my next cake to try it. Good luck!! ![]()
I just made my first batch tonight. I tried to coat them with some chocolate candy melts (not Wilton brand), and I didn't like it. It never melted enough to make it easy to dip. I just rolled mine in powdered sugar or cocoa. I am worried that they are too moist, so we will see how they are in the morning.
Do a recipe search and type in cake balls. They are extremely yummy and an excellent way to use up cake scraps.
I find it so funny that despite how often cake balls are talked about some still don't knwo what they are!!
I just made some last night. I coated them in 60% choc ghirardelli chips. I would have used the good 72% choc I usually use but i ran out and didn't feel like going to the store. I also rolled some in a powder mix of choc mocoa hot cocoa and hazelnut instant coffee.
I'm still trying to figure out how to successfully roll the whole thing in sprinkles or nuts but I haven't attempted it other than realizing what a mess that would be.
