Okay, so I will be making my sons birthday cake on friday and I have a question for all of you pros out there! I am doing a barnyard theme cake and will be using the 3-d wilton house pan for the barn. I was going to do an 11x15 cake and stand the barn up on the cake. I am just assuming that I will dowel the barn through the bottom cake, but is there anything else that I will need to do? Do I need to put a divider between the barn and the bottom cake? Any information will be greatly appreciated! TIA

What I would do is cut a board the same size and shape as the bottom of the barn and cover with foil. Make an imprint with the board onto the sheet cake where you want to place the barn. Place 4 wooden dowel rods about 1 inch in from each corner of the area you imprinted where you will sit the barn. The dowels will help support the barn, and the foil covered board will allow you to pick up the barn when it is time to cut the cake.

Hope this helps.

Thanks so much for your input! I will try it and see how I do! I am a little nervous about the barn falling off or something, but hopefully it will work out for me!

sharpen one end of a dowel and put that through the top of the barn all the way down to the sheet cake's cake board, you should have no problems with the barn falling off.

I would also consider the center dowel like mxpark suggested. that way it wont slide off or fall over. you can also cut a small hole in the center of the cake board that the barn sits on, stick your center dowel (sharpened) in the bottom cake and then lower the barn cake on top through the hole (does that make sense?) That way you wont have to repair the top hole of the barn cake. just make sure the center dowel isnt taller than the combined height. I like this method too because you get it placed in the right spot.
