Hello everyone. I am new to cake decorating and presently in course 2. I was wondering how you all achieve such beautiful colors on your cakes. It seems like the wilton colors never are what they are supposed to be. I tried making royal blue but could never get it dark enough, also red never becomes red, violet I could not get real dark. What is the secret to getting the right colors. Also I have noticed on this site Americolor and was wondering if that is better to use than the Wilton colors. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Hi There!
I use flow paste from kopykake as well as ChefMaster liqua-gel colors. I've never had a problem with them!

Americolors all the way! They are brighter and you use a lot less. Also don't need to use toothpicks since they are in squeeze bottles. thumbs_up.gif

I agree with Missy, I originally bought Wilton because that's what Michaels sell. Now that I have been doing them a couple of years all mine are replaced with Americolor. I hate having to use a toothpick with the wilton colors.

Americolor here!!! I used to use wilton but you would have to add the whole jar to get a dark color and then it would taste bad. You just have to use a little Americolor and it doesn't leave a bad taste for the icing and the colors are very vibrant!! It is cheaper in the long run.

I am an Americolor convert! I used to use all Wilton - now I'm just using up some that I already have and will buy all Americolor from now on.

My motto: Americolor ROCKS! icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

I too am an americolor convert. I started using them about 3 months ago and have never looked back! thumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gif
