I am planning on making a small tiered cake, a 9 inch with a 6 inch on top, both 3" pans. The colors I am going to use are delphinium blue and white. It will be decorated with daises, a bow on top and maybe a bow around one of the layers. Which combo do you think would look best, white buttercream with the blue accents (daises, bows, etc.) of the blue buttercream with white accents?

Hey patton78,

Is this a wedding cake? I'd opt for the white frosting with blue accents.

Sounds very pretty, please post when completed.

I am always partial to white with color accents, especially darker or richer colors like blue...have fun!

Unless it is a wedding cake, I think the blue with white accents would look great (like your Course III final cake with the purple & white roses for accents - I took a peek at your photos!). Delphinium blue isn't too dark so it would look pretty as the base color.

I agree with the blue for the base and white as the accent. thumbs_up.gif

Okay, so far that is 2 for white base and 2 for blue! Anyone else? This is not a wedding cake, it is for a Military Function for all the wives.
Thanks, I really value all your opinions!

My 2 cents for what it's worth...

I think the blue with white accents would be very pretty.

I love the delphinium blue color, very subtle, yet pretty. I would go with the blue cake, white flowers.

Wow, thanks you all! I love the delphinium blue as well, at this point, it looks like the vote is for a blue base. Thanks a lot. I will be making this cake in 1 week so I will let you all know how it turns out.

I wanted to let you all know that I ended up doing blue with white accents. I decided to cover the cake in Fondant since I could not get it smooth for the life of me (my biggest problem all of the time!). The blue fondant got a little too dark but overall I was pretty happy. Especially since I had just found out I was pregnant and was really sick the day I had to decorate it. Now I can't stand caramel or the coffeemate flavoring! icon_sad.gif The cake is in my photos if you would like to take a look, thanks to all of you for your votes!

Thanks! I tired to do the loop bow but it did not look good at all. Tried to take a shortcut to make it and that was not a good idea, oh well, now I know for next time!
