I use LorAnn oils to flavor my hard candy, and want to try them in cakes, etc. for fun and unique flavors, but I have some questions. I know that flavor is an individual thing, but how much would you say to use to start with? I mean, I use a whole bottle in a batch of hard candy because I like it potent! But cake would be different. My biggest question is frosting. I would love to make things like cinammon frosting using LorAnn, but the oil is pink, will that tint my frosting? Will I only be able to use flavors that are clear, or can I use the others too? Is the amount you use so little that it doesn't color the icing? Anyone tried it? Results? Better ideas? Any feedback is appreciated!
Yes, you can use them. I used rasberry and cheesecake flavors already. I used about 1/2 bottle (.25 FL. oz.) of the rasberry in 1 cake mix. I also used it to flavor my fondant (before I new about MMF). The colored flavors do color the icing, so if you want it white, only use clear colors. My cheese cake rasberry cake had 1 pink layer, 1 white layer with buttercream icing for tort filling and pink and white fondant over butter cream. My pic is in my album. It is the only fondant cake in there! Hope this helps!! ![]()

I love Lorann flavoring in my cake mixes and frosting. I only use a few drops - a little goes a long way! The color is not noticeably affected by the coloring, in my opinion; but if it is noticeable to you, you could always add just a few drops of the "white-white". Try it, and let us know what you think!![]()

I absolutely love the LorAnn oils and flavorings - I just bought 15 of them!!! I have used the flavoring in cakes, and am not sure how much I used. I also have used them in buttercream. I use 2 or 3 drops of the oils per 3 cups of buttercream and it produces a nice flavor. I use approx 1/8 teaspoon of the flavoring per 3 cups of buttercream since the flavorings are not as potent as the oils are - of course you can add more to suite your individual taste. As for changing the color, I have not had any problems using the 1/8 teaspoon. I just made some chocolate hazelnut flavored buttercream using LorAnn flavoring and my icing still looked pretty white to me. This particular flavoring is dark brown. Like someone else said, some white-white would take care of any hint of color in the buttercream.
