I start with the Hershey's dark chocolate get it nice and dark and add a black. it gets nice and black. It will get darker the more it sits and when you use it. If you don't have the special dark the regular chocolate will work just fine. Good luck

Always be sure to tell people when you use chocolate in icing, especially if it's not on a chocolate cake. Some have allergies and they don't think about it being in black icing. I use Americolor's Super Black and it makes a great black every time, uses much less coloring to get a good dark black and doesn't leave any weird flavor behind. It also makes a nice grey by adding just a little instead of the strange green that Wilton black gets.

Yes yes yes! Please check.. I have a cousin that can not have ANY chocolate or caffiene products or she could die! it doesn't matter how little there is. Please make sure you check before you use it.

I color my white icing with brown coloring as dark as I can and then add the black to it. I also always mix my dark colors in my mixer so I don't hurt my wrist mixing.
