I have a 2tier cake coming up. The lady wants to pick it up from the house. I need to know if this is possible, or do I have to take it there in 2 separate pieces, and put it together there? I want to make a good impression on this customer, because there are connections there.... The cake isn't separated wiht pillars, it will just be 2- 12 inch squares on bottom, and 2- 8 inch on top, with cake board in between, Right, is that the best way?? I know cakes, but mostly sheet cakes, and 3-d figures... The teir cakes are fairly new territory for me. Thanks to anyone with options for me... icon_biggrin.gif

I do that all the time, and it is easy to transport them. After construction (with dowels or straws, or whatever you use) I sharpen a measured dowel on one end like a pencil and hammer it straight through both cakes to the bottom of the board. It is not very hard. Do it right down the middle. Be sure to decorate the top where the hole is.

CC article on tiered/stacked cake construction:

Cut-away side view of tiered cake w/dowels and cakeboards:

I would recommend putting some foam shelf liner in the bottom of the cake box and then another piece for the box to sit on.

If possible, have the cake cold. Cold cakes travel MUCH better than if they're at room temperature.
