MMF, I made some at home and it was great. Took it to class the day of and it was hard as a rock, drying out and cracking on me. I was so mad, I could spit. I nuked it, but as soon as I rolled it out, it was drying and cracking again.

What can I do to salvage it?? Help! Someone was saying crisco or glycerine, but how much??

Also, what can I do to make the rose bud centers stick to the toothpick?! When I try to fold the rose petals around it, the head comes off. We dipped the toothpicks in crisco as directed. I tried it without the crisco and they wouldn't even stick to the to the toothpick.

Help, I'm about to get out the glue gun. LOL!

Crisco will make the toothpick able to detach from the rose, not stick to it. If you want to stick to the toothpick, then use vanilla extract or some thinned down glue-like fondant.

I'd say you probably added too much sugar to your fondant. I always stop adding sugar before there it feels like there is enough. After it sets overnight it is usually okay.

Yes, I would have to agree that you added too much sugar to your MMF. I am not sure what you can do to salvage it, maybe add some more water. Crisco will make it more pliable but that is it.

The funny thing is that I didn't use the whole 2 pounds of powdered sugar that it called for, maybe 4 cups. I have no idea why it would have been dry. I even added an extra TBSP water. It was perfect when it was done, it was nice and supple. I wrapped it up and sealed it properly, by the time I got to class that night it was hard.

Thanks for your help everyone!

Fondant shrinks some when it dries, so even with out the crisco your toothpicks are probably going to come off. What I have been doing lately is after the base dries I will pull it off and dip the tip of the toothpick into piping gel and then let that dry. It will stick then. icon_smile.gif
