I want to make a doll cake using a barbie but I want to know how many layers I need under the wondermold to make the skirt look long enough.
I know it isn't tall enough on it's own but is one 8" enough?

The wondermold should be tall enough on its own. That's the way it's designed to be used.

If you want a taller skirt, however, you can make it as high as you like.

The wondermold is made to use with doll picks sold by wilton, not real barbies. A 6" round fits exactly under the mold to make it tall enough to use a real barbie, I have one in my photos

good luck with her, it is lots of fun, like designing a dress, but with icing.

Your doll is beautiful. thumbs_up.gif
Thanks, I was going to use an 8" icon_redface.gif but yours looks the height I want and not too big at the bottom.
I knew it wasn't tall enough but wasn't too sure about how much taller it needed to be.

You can also torte and fill your cake to make it tall enough if you don't want to bake an extra cake. I needed just 1 inch more for mine and torting took care of it.

I used the wondermold all the way to the top and used a 9in round at the bottom. See my pic.

It's going to depend how full you fill the wondermold. If you are using full size barbie, you will definitely need more cake than just the wondermold to fit.

I fill my cake pan pretyt full (probably 7-8 cups batter) and mine usually end up about 8" across at the bottom of the skirt, when I put them on top of a larger round I use an 8" cake board between them and it fits just fine.
