I am making a gift box cake and want it to look like ladybug wrapping paper. I could only find a rubber ladybug stamp. Has anyone ever tried food color paint with rubber stamps on fondant??

I guess it will at least emboss it, but it would be nice not to have to paint all of the detail with a brush.

it does work!!! just make sure it's a brand new stamp and not one you've used ink on........what I do is wet a small sponge or paper towel and squeeze off excess liquid, then with a paint brush ...brush on some of your gel coloring and then blot the stamp onto the sponge picking up the color.......I always practice on a spare little sheet of fondant before going directly onto the cake..........it works really well though.....sometimes once you've stamped you'll have one little line that doesn't show up perfectly.....don't try to restamp it you'll never line it up perfectly again....instead I've gone back with a little extra color on the end of a toothpick for really small details or you can wait for it to dry and go over the lines again with a food marker. Have fun, there's a million designs possible once you realize you can use that gel coloring as paint LOL

you can use wilton or americolor........I personally have used both but prefer the americolor...sometimes the wilton gets clumpy and the americolor is usually a nice syrupy gelled kinda consistency.....no lumps of coloring.

Ihave stamped on fondant before. I use the Wilton Brush-On Color. It comes out like paint. Just use a paint brush and brush it on the stamp. Very gentally press the stamp on the fondany. It doesn't take very much pressure. Good luck and hope this helps.

Thanks for all of the replies! It really helps! I usually mix paste color and lemon extract to make fondant paint, but the gel or brush on color may be easier for this part.

Cool! I've wondered about this too - thought it might be easier than the impression mats! icon_smile.gif
