for roses??? I have a potential cake order for Saturday (although she balked at my price icon_rolleyes.gif 9in chocolate 2 layer heart (torted so 4 layers cake, 3 filling, all scratch baked) with roses around the entire top for decoration - quoted her $45 for buttercream & $55 for fondant icon_mad.gif !), what would be good colours to use for roses on a man's cake, apart from blue?! Thanks icon_smile.gif

I would say either do them in brown(chocolate) or maybe even a white chocolate or alternate.......maybe if you do fondant cake you could make the top striped or some kind of geometric pattern and alternate the brown and white

Someone else just asked about this, I think last week.

I would have to agree about throwing some brown in there - groom's cakes are mostly done in chocolate icing, so I would keep along that line. Perhaps some tootsie roll roses on ivory or tan icing or fondant, brown borders or ribbon around the bottom. Perhaps some gold trim somewhere. Now that I think about it, I actually like the fondant/ribbon combo best. Instead of roses you might think about going with autumn leaves.

green might work well, if it were a mossy green and not a bright green

I've seen some done in a burgundy color that looked really nice.

Thanks girls! I quite like the idea of the modelling chocolate roses (in white), with either chocolate buttercream or chocolate fondant covering. If she insists that the roses are coloured (and she definately wants roses!), can I colour modelling chocolate with ordinary colours, or do they have to be candy colours? Thanks!

you need to use candy colors...........or powdered colors......the gel colors will make the chocolate seize!

it might be really pretty too to kind of knead the white and dark modelling chocolate together and get a kind of marbelled sp? effect and then make roses out of that!

I have used fall colors for men. I just add a touch of brown to yellow, orange, red, and the green leaf. I would also do mums instead of roses, unless that is what the customer wanted. Blue looks like a baby cake imho.

I agree with debiashwood. If they specifically want roses, do some orange, red and/or yellow with green leaves. I am doing a masculine cake this weekend using fall colors also.

The white and chocolate marbled roses sound beautiful also.

Good luck!
