Probably take blue and add a little bit of black to it.

I did try to mix sky blue and black, and I got a greyish blue colour, so I was just wondering what else people did to get a nice rich navy colour...

Use delphinium blue! I know it shows it as a light color on the jar, but if you add a lot of it, it turns into navy blue! I wish I had the pic to show you of the cake I made using it. I MAY have added a bit of royal blue to it also,.... I can't remember.
