Hi I got my cake ready it is in the freezer I have to cut the top off and then it's ready for icing, but I will be using the triple star tip and was wondering if I should do a red icing crumb coat so that in case there is any space or cracks in between stars it shows no cake through that, also do I have out line the sections of the car just just go crazy with stars all over it??? By the way I will be doing in it in a different color because it is the practice cake for the Wiggles Car Cake, also the wheels should I pipe black icing on the part of the wheel or is it best to use like an oreo cookie?

It wouldn't hurt to put red on the cake where the red stars will be.

Outline would be the way to go. Wiltons character pans directions say to outline.

As for the wheel...since this is a practice cake; I'd try it both ways to see which I liked the best.

Good luck, HTH!

When I've used character pans, I always outlined first, filled in with stars, then outlined again so that the lines were bold. HTH

Will out lining once with like tip 3 work too? I have also seen on these kind of car cakes not just a wiggles car they used donuts for the wheels but can't you just pipe black icing if you put a donut does that mean I have to carve out the actual wheel off the cake

As far as outling is concerned, try it and see if you like the results. When I use a star tip, they are higher than the initial outline. That's why I go over the outline a second time. The few times that I have used mini donuts for wheels, I've cut them in half so that they don't protrude from the cake too much.

A couple of cakes I did with wheels I just used tip 21 and sort of made a swirl for the wheels. It looked pretty good. I have on pic in my gallery. I do know where some people used donuts, but unless you used small ones, you would probably need to elevate the cake. oreos might work, i hadnt thought of that.
