I've made the Whipped Cream BC (recipe from CC) many times and love it. I've never made IMBC. After look at ingredients I thought it might be similar. Anyone have any input?

Definetly different.
1. Whipped BC is easy and doesn't taste sweet.
2. IMBC tastes great, but you have to cook the
sugar. Alot of hit of misses can happen.
I just made a similiar version of the whipped cream
bc from a lady's recipe in kentucky. FABULOUS!
IMBC is good, but work.

IMBC is my favorite icing and my standard. Once you've made it, it is as easy as any other icing. It scares some people because you have to cook the sugar and because it doesn't look like buttercream til the very end. It smooths like glass, holds up well, and tastes fabulous. I highly recommend trying it at least once and deciding for yourself.

Does it crust at all? I love the Viva method for smoothing a cake.

I made the whipped cream BC and wasn't happy with it. I had a hard time getting it smooth (maybe I beat it too long??). I haven't tried the IMBC yet but I really want to. I'm one of the ones who are intimidated because you have to cook the sugar, get the correct temp., etc.
