Does anyone know what type of frosting bakeries normally use? I mean like the local supermarkets. Is it buttercream? Does anyone have a recipe

I think alot of them are using Bettercreme now. I don't think you can make it but you can buy it by the tub. Lots of people like it but personally I think it tastes nasty.
It is softer than regular icing but since I've never worked with it I don't know how it holds up.

Most of the bakeries around here are using Bettercreme. Like the above poster, I really don't like it and am glad to see that the bakeries around here are also going back to using buttercream as well.
