Help! I've already done a Golden Buddha cake for my Buddhist teacher from the same temple.

This will once again be a surprise and a free cake for the group. (This is the only group I've ever given a free cake too)

A woman in our new group has decided to become a Buddhist Nun and her celebration is on August 3rd. I work Friday-Mon 12hr. shifts and I teach and massage on tuesdays so the cake cannot be very elaborate.

Any suggestions?

Oh, we are a Kadampa Buddhist Group, if that helps anyone.

I just looked up some images on google to get some ideas. Sorry if they are not what you are looking for, but I don't know much about Kadampa Buddhist Groups

Maybe you can do a sheet cake in the maroon and gold colors with the picture of the mountain and the sun...here is a link to what I am talking about.

Or you can do a sheet cake with the maroon and gold robe on it made of fondant. Obviously this link shows a wedding dress on the cake, but just to make it clear what I'm talking about. icon_smile.gif

MamaBerry-

What I have learned from Doug - is to think and look at of the physical elements of ....in this case Kadampa Buddhism.

May be they have a book for the curious or interested persons? look at what is required to become a Kadampa Buddhist and what is on the alter...

Color(s), texture, symbols etc.

Hope this helps! Good luck! thumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gif

Thanks you two.

What's usually on our centers altar are sweet fruits, yogurt, a special bell, etc. I think this cake is difficult for me to create in my head because I care so much and I know the woman becoming a nun.

Did I mention she's a twin? I wonder if the other sister will follow in her footsteps several years from now.

are there any special:
clothing?
items of accessory (belt, hat, etc.)
jewelry?
items (other than the already mentioned bell) used in ceremony?

and then...

could do cake that looks like a scroll w/ calligraphy lettering on it that spells out a blessing/prayer special to her or her new name?

or

is it possible to replicate some part of the temples exterior? interior? decoration?

one of the forms? http://www.kadampa.org/english/practice/deities.php

Okay, because of your help I've decided on the first 3 parts of the cake.

The cake board will be decorated like a tibetan rug and the cake will be the zafu that we sit on to meditate. Mala prayer beads will sit on top of the "cushion".

I remember hearing her say she wanted to kill off her old self. This was said prior to her one year pretending to be a nun (walking the path before taking the jump).

I don't know her official new name. I'll go get my emails and ask around.
