Hi there

I have dusted flowers - not cakes - but am guessing the principal is the same... if you mix your dust colour with cornflour (not sure the US name for this) you will get a softer colour - and it makes the colour go further - if you don't mix it, you will have very strong colours - depends on you you want.

I use a very soft art brush and dust the fondant until you get the finish you are after...

Don't know if this is much help... hope it is.

Good luck - would love to see a pic of the finished cake.

Ciao for now

use the biggest, softest cosmetics brush you can find. Dip your brush in gently, make sure you tap the excess off before applying to cake. Use gentle strokes.

I only know of using cornstarch (the US term for cornflour) with petal dusts, to lighten the color. I have not heard of using them on luster or pearl dusts. Perhaps someone can enlighten me.

They can also be mixed with alcohol or lemon extract and painted onto the surface of your cake. This technique is normally only used for painting detail work, and not the entire surface.
