I am making an Old as Dirt cake for my great aunt's birthday. I was going to do a sheet cake with chocolate icing and then put dirt on top with little shovels. How can I make dirt? Thanks for all your help!

crushed oreos!!!!!

and if don't want the white bits -- just twist them open and scarp out the filling! (be good -- don't indulge on the filling -- feed it to the cat and put the cat outdoors and watch it bounce off the trees for a while, so says the dog)

(in some stores in some areas they sell just the dark chocolate wafer cookies -- not a nabisco product -- but they are a bit hard to find)

if prefer brown dirt -- than any brown cookie or graham crackers can be used.

Also if you buy the box of pre-crushed oreos at the grocery store, it is crushed so finely, that you really don't see the white part.

maybe do a mixture of graham crackers and another darker brown colored cookie. Or heck, just get some oreos and a bunch of other brown cookies, crush them, and i;m sure you would end up with something that resembles dirt...

(of course in the red clay areas of the country, just make a red velvet cake. --- let it dry out a bit and crumble it up!)

winning recipe imho: brownies mixed w/ crushed oreos

(and add a few gummy worms/bugs for effect!)
