I get a call from a woman in Baltimore last night wanting to order a cake. No problem, right? Well she didnt even know I had a website she said she got my information off of this site? I wasnt aware that was possible. Is our information really obtainable on here or should I be worried Im being scammed?
This woman wants a $100 cake for next Saturday. Should I ask her to send me a deposit on it and if so how much?
Even if you're not a member or signed in, you can still read the posts which is why you shouldn't post personal information.
I would definitely ask her for a cash deposit of at least half. There are scams going on out there. I don't see how she could have gotten your full name off of CC.
If she were looking at this site she probably just clicked on your website at the bottom of all your posts....it has your phone number right there under contact information on your website. Maybe she was looking for bakers in her/your area?
See hun I'm not the only one worried bout this woman lol. ![]()
As I said before... There are more bakers in Baltimore on here that could've filled her request easier without the travel time and cost you'll face with delivery and I agree with everyone else you should get payment up front on this either in the form of cash (can be mailed in a security envelope) or money order... I'd steal from checks even though I suggested local only I forgot the think about weather it could be drawn off a closed account or stolen check or more....
I would ask where she got your number from ... just tellher that you hadn't expected to get orders from this sight and wanted to know how she found your number.
Geographically, I don't have a clue where you are in relation to her, but you could also ask why she chose you over someone closer. Tell her that it may help you get better/more business if you knew how she found you.
And me, being rather paranoid, I would want someone to go with me when I delievered the cake or have someone at the house if she came to pick it up (especially if things just don't feel right).
Hopefully, it will be a very easy answer and you will start getting more orders in the same way!
Yes, definitely ask her more specific questions on how she got your number.
Does she have an email address? I would most likely like to have something in writing just for protection not just by phone since you don't know who this person is. Also, this could be a way for you to get approval for the cake design (if you do the cake).
Another thing that came to mind is definitely be leary if she's asking for a specific licensed character type of cake(spongebob, elmo, etc.)
Oh, and get the deposit up front.
Hope this helps.
Elaine

Well she really didnt know what she wanted. She was talking about a gift box cake but then wanted it two tiered. She is suppose to call me back tonight for the final decision.
She said that she put in cake decorators in Maryland and got my name on this site. Im just hoping she is legit. I really could use the business/ word of mouth.
