Hi! Not dumb... icon_smile.gif You cover each cake separately. and yes the second (and subsequent, if any,) tiers go onto their own cardboard. Make sure to put some type of dowels into the bottom cake to support the weight of the second tier and so on. I then dowel the whole cake (thru the cardboards and all with a sharpened wooden dowel). You'll need to cover each cake individually in fondant. Place supports (dowels, skewers) in the bottom cake to support the smaller cake. The smaller cake will need to be on a cake board. Hope that helps!

JanH, I know now that Superstar refers to the number of posts, but every time I follow a string and find an answer from you, I heave a HUGE sigh of relief, because you seem to know EVERYTHING about this site! (This is not to say that everyone else's answers are not helpful icon_redface.gif - I've learnt so much from you all - it's driving my husband nuts - if I'm not on the computer, I'm rushing to the kitchen to "just try this out - what a great idea!),
But anyway, JanH - thank you so much for all the references! You really are a Superstar thumbs_up.gifthumbs_up.gif

Thanks JanH - I have my first large stacked cake coming up in August and I knew all the answers to my questions were on CC and I was sort of dreading having to sift through and find what I need. But you just put all the links I need all in one place - that's great! Thank you! icon_smile.gif
