I like Wilton's crystal clear divider set. It gives such height to the cake AND you don't have to stack cakes on top of each other. There is one more tier at the bottom which I didn't use for this cake. It's about $50.00.

I like the homemade fabric covered styrofoam bases like Earlene has on her cakes: http://www.earlenescakes.com/Embroidrycakes.htm

I love that cake stand thar Earlene uses too and not to hi-jack this thread, but what do you think of using something like this turned upside down? I am looking for something at least 16 inches in diamemter and would love to know if anybody has any ideas or input.

I don't see why that wouldn't work. Also, you could put flowers under it (like a dome) for added decoration.

The glass bowl should work and look stunning ! On another board for wedding planners there was a cake that the baker used glass blocks for the cake stand and put votive candles in it--It was beautiful ! I can't wait to use this idea

Just a note, Earlene sells the pattern to make the cloth stand cover, I made two, one in ivory and one in dark chocolate colors, and I use styrofoam dummies to 'fill' it with and support the cake!

Do you find people prefer clear more than white or even metal stands. I am considering having my husband make me some metal stands.

For me, people just go with the overall design of the cake not specific stands.

I think you can get the Crystal Splendor stand on ebay for a good price. My favorite stands are wrought iron plant stands!

Do you know how to make stands like those? I remember reading something about Earlene having a link on her page on how to make that cake stand but I couldn't find it anywhere.

Has anyone ever tried going to like home depot or something and buying some of those light cover or bathroom tiles or something and using it as a cake stand? You know the ones that are clear but fuzzy and it's pretty thick. I saw someone on tv b4 but didn't know how to go about to make it. Just curious.

Thanks!

I used single glass bricks as the stands for table cakes once. It was simple and so much easier and less expensive than renting/buying 16 identical cake stands:

loveqm... 12" x 12" floor ceramic tiles work great, and since they usually run from like a dollar a piece to a few bucks, you don't have to be too worried if you don't get it back!

I really like this cake stand from England, made by Cynthia Venn. It is actually a shiny chrome but I taped it with brown floral tape for this particular cake to represent a grape vine branch.

Now you know I collect pedestal cake plates, so if that were the question it would have to be the shoe cake plate in my avatar.
