My Icing Is Pulling Off My Cake...
Decorating By TiffTurtle Updated 11 Sep 2006 , 8:45pm by TiffTurtle
i decorated a 4 lyr cake w/ BC and when it was cut into the cake the icing pulls off...any ideas what caused this? any suggestions on how to keep it from happening?
Thanks
That happened to me not long ago....my bc was too sof (too much milk I think) so I added flour to stiffen it up...pretty sure I added too much...it wouldn't stick to the cake very well, at least not on the sides...and it was a warm day....so I dunno....maybe it is a little too stiff...????
Did you crumb coat the cake? The only time I have this happen is when I have crumbcoated the cake. I only do crumbcoats now when I am using italian meringue buttercream.
I have had the same problem and was going to post about it. What happened with mine was that it looked like the icing bubbled out. Almost like there was air in the cake and it pushed out the icing. It was only on one side, the rest of the cake was fine. I did use a crumb coat and I know the icing was fine because the cake was 3 tiers and the other 2 did not have this problem. I scraped the icing off that side of the cake (it was square) and re-iced and decorated before the wedding. Does anyone have any idea why that would happen?
by the way... I used the wilton bc and there were not any fillings used. The cake was a DH white cake mix with no extras per the bride's instructions.
Okay.... I just reread the original message and I guess we don't have the same problem exactly. When I went to scrap off the icing the whole side did fall away easily but the other sides stayed on.
The reason I added flour was cuz I was gonna make some figures out of it and someone from here reccommended that to me...you can kind of shape the bc when ya add the flour.
Hey wendoger that's interesting info!!
I'll have to remember that ![]()
