I have never used Royal Icing before, and I am going to make little skulls and crossbones out of it for a punk rocker cake. What I need to know is can I do something with the unused portion of icing and reuse it later, or is it a one-time deal once you have it mixed? I don't know if I will have enough time to make all the little guys that I will need tonight, and am hoping I have some icing that isn't set to use tomorrow, to finish the rest.

Thanks for you input!!!

yes you'll be able to save what you don't use. Make sure it is covered well.

If you make it with meringue powder, it can be stored and used again. Place remaining RI in a container and cover tightly. Place in refrigerator. Bring to room temperature and stir really good before next use.

I love working with Royal Icing! I store mine in a zipper bag and get all of the air out I can. As long as you store it in an air tight container you should be ok. I usually use mine within a few days so I really don't know how long it will last. But I think I have seen some other posts that say it will last a couple of weeks.

I am sure one of the others here can give you better advice on how long it will keep.

okay, this site states that you can reuse it if it were made with egg whites as well....hmmmm
