Take a big breath, walk away for a minute and then go back and dig right in. You'll make it!!!
I get the same way when I get overwhelmed.
Good luck and let us know how it goes!!!!

Well I made it!!! Sometimes I think I take too many. But it's so hard to say no when someone is begging you. "I don't know where else to go... icon_cry.gif ....I don't want to go to Wal-Mart...." icon_confused.gif As I'm thinking "then why did you start looking for a cake the week before your party???" Thanks for the support guys!!!

OH AND TO TOP IT OFF!!!

On the way to a bday party I did the cake for, I popped into Dollar Tree to get a card. While I was in there my 8 year old son was clowning around and his foot went over the back seat of my van into....yes....the top tier of my superman cake. icon_cry.gificon_mad.gif It was salvagable, but stilll.....

I felt that way for some Thanksgiving cakes I made last year. They were non-decorated cakes but to make six in one night after working 8 hours that day was hell. When I got to the last cake I stared at it for a minute just thinking to myself "do I really want to do this". Call me crazy but I'm hoping to get more than six orders this year. icon_confused.gif

Why do we do that to ourselves?!?! The worst for me was the 24 six inch rounds and 3 dozen petit fours I did for the friday before Easter! I never even when to sleep that night. I just finished them, loaded up the van and brought them to the lady. She orders really frequently from me, and I swore I'd never do it again, but then mother's day rolled around and I took about the same again!!! But I did a much simpler cake. The easter cakes were basketweave with pulled grass and fondant eggs.....ahhhhhhh icon_cry.gif !!!! But for mother's day I just did a small cluster with 5 roses and a little garland on the side. AND THEY WERE DISAPPOINTED!!!! Please...for $10!!!!! So I only got 10 for father's day and at that point I informed her that I am not a bakery and I cannot mass produce cakes like that and have them still be so fab as the ones for easter were.

Yes, I have often felt that way. "Why am I doing this???"

People are often cheap. Cheap people are the HARDEST people to please.

I no longer deal with cheap people.

Someone who' paying $120 for a party cake is actually a lot less picky than someone who's paying $30.

This is a mystery of the universe. No one completely understands it but it's true....

I completely agree about being too tired sometimes. Last night I just wanted to put everything down and go to bed and deal with it in the morning, but once you put that last little bit of icing on and box it up, it sure feels good--especially when you hand it off to the lucky owner.

As far as the cheap/hard to please thing--I noticed that too--makes you wonder sometimes what is wrong with the world. I guess that is why wealthy people can spend more freely if they want and not have to be so concerned what happens to each dollar--broad generalization, I know, and not always true, but somewhat is from what I found.

OMG!! That comment about the person ordering the cheaper cake is true so often!

I, too, often sit and stare at the naked, cooled cake in front of me (after doing the other 5) and wonder where I am going to get the strength and patience to do this one. Then I remember that I love this junk and it all turns out ok! icon_wink.gif

Okay, I'm new to these forums and i think all your work is wonderful. I love the pressure when i'm having to do a cake. It actually brings my blood pressure down.

It is funny. Tonight I have been feeling this way too! I have 3 Birthday cakes for my staff this week at work (I only have 6 on my staff and half of them have a Birthday the 1st and 2nd week of September!), a cake for a 10 year anniversary, a cake class and I have to go to a Federal Reserve conference all day Tuesday!!! I tried to get a head start on things today, but I hate to bake too far ahead of time. Then, I have a Wedding this weekend!! AAGGHH!!! icon_cry.gificon_cry.gif

I am sure I will make it through and Saturday after I deliver the Wedding Cake, everything will be fine, but until then...stress and sleepless nights!

Hang in there everybody and keep on decorating!!

I can really relate to all of you! Bed always sounds better when you have cakes to do and can't go to bed. We do it to ourselves, but after you're done and they pick up your cakes, you forget the pain and sleepless night you just went through. Ugh! Sort of anyway and we do it all over again! Are we crazy or do we just love what we do. I sometimes wonder about that too!

The ones that wear me out are the ones that other people want. I have endless energy for the ones I do just to do 'em.

I only recently started selling my cakes...and since I have...I have gotten SWAMPED with orders....one weekend I did a wedding cake, grooms cake, shower cake, and 2 birthday cakes all by saturday...and SWORE I would not do THAT again!!! It was good money..yes...but I ran off of caffiene and 4 hours sleep for 3 days...NOT EASY!!!
I have 5 cakes this coming weekend, but they are for Fri, Sat and Sun all spaced out....That is doable. In answer to the oringinal question....yes...I have at times looked at a blank cake and thought...I JUST WANNA SLEEEEP! But...I remember the little girl or boy who will be so disappointed if I do not finish the cake on time...so I do it....and feel much better afterwards. Sometimes...I have gone to bed and set my alarm clock for 2 hours...that is usually enough for me to refresh...get up...take a hot shower, and start again. Try it...it might be what you need! Good Luck!!!!

I might have to try the 2 hour nap. I had four cakes this week, with 2 of them being stacked cakes. I've completed two of them, but I also work 3 part time jobs, and go to school full time. Not to mention the DH and kids....it's a rough life.

I can relate to cake exhaustion. I made my daughters wedding cake for this past week end. I spent one whole day decorating, the cakes were all done as was all the frosting and all the fillings.

I started at 7:00 am and finished at 9:35p.m. with one half hour break to eat lunch. I was crying from exhaustion at 9:00p.m. I had (9) 10 inch cakes, (2) 12 inch cakes, (1) 8 inch cake , (1) 9 inch cake and (1) 6 inch cake. luckily I didn't run out of frosting, or have any major problems.

Next time, if there ever is a NEXT time...lol.....I will, take more breaks, or else quit sooner, and sleep for awhile like the previous poster said, and then awake shower and start again. Towards the end I got to the point I didn't even care, I just wanted to be FINSHED!!

Speaking of cake exhaustion... I just finished tonight's installment of cakes and it dawned on me... I haven't been out of my house since last Friday. And that was just to the gas station to get more Diet Cherry Coke. icon_confused.gif

I've just figured out the cure for cake exhaustion....a trip to Disney with the kids, hubby, and no cakes!!! I've been rolling with flow every since I got back. Good thing too cuz the phones been ringing and last weekend was quite busy. October seems to be shaping up to be another exhauster. I CAN'T WAIT!!! Lots of fun ones to do!!! Thanks to all for your support. This has replaced Myspace as my new addiction!! Nice to have many people who TOTALLY UNDERSTAND all that you are going through!!! icon_biggrin.gif

You are totally on to something!! October is going to be my biggest month ever with back to back weddings, the biggest ones I have ever done! Then, when it's all over the first weekend in November we are going to go visit my MIL in Florida... she lives right next to Disney. I've never been there. I think this is a good plan!!

OH you MUST go!!! This was only my second trip and when they call it the happiest place on earth...they mean it!!! I immediately became the same age as my kids upon arrival! And felt that way all week. It's good for the soul...and in November...ahhh...it'll be all decorated for Christmas. Ohhhh, now I'm jealous, treat yourself!
