Is it tacky to make your own graduation cake? My college graduation party is in three weeks and I still don't know what I'm doing about the cake. I definitly don't want to pay a couple of hundred dollars to get a cake that I'm capable of making myself, but at the same time I think it might be tacky to make my own cake. I also don't wan't a sheet cake from the grocery store because this is an elegant dinner celebration at a banquet hall. I'm so confused :-/ Any ideas? Thanks so much!

consider -- when you host a party at home -- you make the food right? that's not tacky

and are you paying for the party?

oh, go ahead ---

only caveat -- be sure to do it far enough in advance you can relax, kick back and party.gif!!!!!

I think the only way it would be tacky is if someone else is throwing the party and asked you to make your own cake. But if you're up for it - and volunteer, I think it would be fine - regardless of who's hosting the party!

Congratulations on your Graduation!

I don't think it is tacky. If you have something special you want sometimes you have to make it for yourself.

If you have the time and energy, I think you should make your own cake. You and your friends should be proud that you can make a cake like that at all. Other people buy cakes 'coz they can't make it themselves. I think your Graduation will be special if there is a cake to celebrate that YOU have made.

Good Luck and every success in what you do!!

i made my own wedding cake also. looking back i would not do it again. the day before your wedding is not the time to be rolling fondant!!

by all means make your own cake!
