I think that is a great idea! My mom gave me her Country Living magazine and they had some great photos for Halloween cupcakes/mini bundt cakes/etc. I will definitely be trying one of those out this year! icon_smile.gif

PS - it is never too early to start getting your thoughts together, all of the holidays will be here before we know it!

A cupcake cake is great to do when there are alot of hands in the picture-easy to manipulate and no cutting required! Petit fours are great too although I have just seen them and never done them.

I did some Halloween petit fours that turned out darling....i made the petit fours with just white cake, colored orange, and used an orange flavored filling, buttercream. Then, I cut them out and used Wilton candy melts to cover. The orange ones were at my local Michael's, and I colored the white ones with black food coloring to make black coating. After I coated them, I used the little sugar charms on top of each one. I ordered them, can't remember what site....maybe Sugarcraft? Anyway, they were really inexpensive, and made great toppers. Another idea for a topper is to use just the white candy melts, and use a red maraschino cherry half with a mini green m & m on it for an eyeball. The kids thought this was a cute idea. You could actually make the petit fours ROUND using a cookie cutter, and make THAT the eyeball, using red piping gel to make the "bloodshot" look....just some thoughts!

I like to do pretzels and apples dipped in carmel and chocolate and whatever else and then drizzled with coordinating colored choc. Like orange and chocolate... fun and easy... better for gifts though. You can wrap them and tie with ribbon.

My DD birthday is the 28th of Oct. she will turn 8 and her favorite holiday is Halloween. Last year we had a Halloween dress up party for her birthday so we were thinking about what to have way in advance. I have never done petite fours before. So I can't help you there. This is my first year with wilton classes under my belt. MY DD wants to invite friends to a cake decorating party. They will each get a small iced cake to decorate as they chose. She is so excited about it. And she wants a castle cake for her cake. We might do a spooky house. She isn't sure yet. You have to think ahead so you can get ideas and plan and maybe even practice a certain technique you haven't done before. I haven't made the trees with royal icing so I will be practicing those for christmas cakes I want to do for friends X-mas gifts. icon_biggrin.gif Good luck

sumer those are great ideas, i didnt even think that far ahead. i was thinking of doing them orange and black and white and some chocolate drizzle on top with a different halloween color. i thought i could put them in a bag and give them to the neighbors kids that we know and our friends.
