I will have a spot at the upcoming town festival in 2 weeks and want to display a couple of cakes as well as sell my desserts.
I have one cake dummy done but need ideas for the second. I already have a elegant wedding cake done (will post later) and now want to do a fun cake to attract kids as well as adults. The weather is usually high 90's for the festival so I don't want any designs with chocolate or buttercream- I guess that leave fondant.
The other thing is, the only cake dummies I have are 4",6",8",10" round and 6",8"10" square.
Got any ideas???

thanks-

I would recommend a Hello Kitty face. You would need to get a styrofoam rectange from a craft store and also a syrofoam cutter (takes 2 batteries that heat up a wire that melts the foam - cost is about $10). Just need a 2" thick piece and enlarge a hello kitty face. Then trace it onto the foam, cut, and use royal icing to glue the fondant on. Only thing is the bow will fade in direct sunlight.
Hope my idea might help. Good luck!

I wouldn't do any licensed characters personally. You could get into a lot of trouble if you are advertising and it is there.

I would go for something bright and colorful. What about a train, plane, automobile theme for boys and maybe butterflies and flowers for girls?

If you just want to do one that covers both genders and all kids I would suggest maybe a present cake with primary colors, or a cake with primary candles coming up along the side of it.

hope this helps, can't wait to see what you decide to do.
