Well thanks to my husband I just got an order for a baseball themed cake (and I don't have any baseball cake kits). I thought about making the cake 1/2 sheet and then making a jersey out of fondant. My delema is I am not artistic at all. They wanted the Reds team. Does anyone have any suggestions for decorating the jersey when you don't have an artistic side to you. I thought about printing out some edible images and putting them on the fondant. Has anyone tried that?

I recently did a jersey cake with fondant. http://www.cakecentral.com/modules.php?name=gallery&file=displayimage&pid=744423 I chose to do the back of the jersey (the recipient is a huge fan of a certain player) and tried to make it look like a shirt wrapped up in a gift box. I found it to be fairly easy, artistically speaking. I just cut out fondant letters and painted them with food colouring. I checked out some images of jerseys on the net (don't know how to add pics to the post, so I've just added links) of the front of the jerseys too.

yep -- edible images on fondant definite possibility

tutorial: http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-decorating-ftopict-13474-image.html

template for cutting cake:
http://www.cakecentral.com/cake-photo_83199.html
(could use removed parts at top to add at bottom to round it and flare it out at bit)

and then just find a photo (google image search) of the recipients favorite player's jersey or just a generic team jersey and use it as a guide to make the cake.
