I have only used Wilton paste colors, as that is all I was familiar with until coming to CC. Now I have seen everyone referring to Americolors and am really tempted to try them. (Have seen some really neat colors at [edited out by admin]) Does anyone have an opinion about how they compare? Are they about the same... way better... not as good? How about in price, are they comparably priced? Thanks in advance for any feedback!
They sell them here for the lowest price you are going to find!!99cents.Try them!! You won't go back to wilton!!
I much, much prefer Americolor. You will use less Americolor and get a truer color then when using the Wilton colors. I also like the fact that you can squirt out the Americolor instead of having to use a toothpick! Buy your Americolors on this site, they are cheap!
LOVE Americolors! I love the fact that you definitely do not need anywhere near as much Americolor to achieve a nice color as compared to Wilton--especially with red and black. And the fact that I don't need to take stock in toothpicks since Americolor is in a squeeze bottle. My Wilton colors are collecting dust...
Except for my Juniper green--I just love that color...
They come in squeeze bottles...? I'M SOLD!! I absolutely HATE the whole toothpick thing! I am definitely going to buy some red and black since those are the colors that are the hardest to get dark! From there, I saw a bunch of really neat ones that Wilton doesn't even offer. Yay!! Thanks everyone.
And Missy... what have I told you about that Avatar? I seriously can't get any work done here!
Oh, but please don't change it!!
This is sooooooo great to know!! Thanks everyone. I actually tried wilton black on fondant and didnt get black!! it came out more like a really dark hunter green. I was soooo frustrated with that. I am definitley going to order some americolor's now.
I'm so sorry, that's why I put a space between Country and Kitchens when I said [edited out by admin]... I didn't mean to make it look like that was the address!! I should've just put the correct addy in there! I didn't mean to make it harder for everyone!
At least I've got some people here to 'clean up' after me when I screw people up! (Where are you guys when I do a number on my kitchen?!
)
I have to agree that Americolors are the best. I started with the red and black too, since those are the most difficult colors, and then started to add to them. A little goes a long way. The only thing I would say is you can't easily make the lighter colors from the darker shades like you can with Wilton, eg using red in white icing to get pink. It comes out a lighter red, so you do need the specific color for the job. I am gradually building up my collection! They are great!
