Im looking for party sized servings vs. wedding sized slices. This is for a double layer 10x10 square christening cake. So im assuming they will want larger slices? thanks you guys.

Just do the math. How big are you going to cut the pieces? If you cut them 2x2, then you will be cutting a 10x10 into 5 rows by 5 rows (25 servings). If you cut them 2x3, then you will cut it 5 rows by about 3 rows (15 rows).

here is a link to wiltons chart on serving size and how to cut which sizes. Look around a bit on there and it gives party sizes and wedding sizes.

Listen to indydebi.. she's the bomb with serving sizes.. here's a link to a chart based on her technique.. http://forum.cakecentral.com/modules/Forums/files/cake_serving_guide_219.pdf I use this exclusively. One thing though.. do you have a per serving price already? Because bigger pieces than your base size warrant a higher price per serving. I sell my cakes based on wedding sizes.. that's what my prices are based on. If someone wants to cut bigger slices.. they pay for more cake. So if someone wants an 8" round celebration cake filled with buttercream.. it's going to cost the same no matter how big the servings are.. at 1x2x4 it's 2$ per serving.. at 1.5x2x4 it's 3$ per serving.. if you want 2x2x4.. 4$ per serving. I also use indydebi's thought process that just because they are used to bigger servings doesn't mean that you should adjust your prices for them.. they can buy more cake. Like she said.. 'You can't go to KFC and order their 3 strips meal and expect them to give you 5 for the same price because you are used to eating more' (roughly quoted icon_wink.gif ).

Can you tell I love this woman and her take no crap mantra?? thumbs_up.gif

Bake a second 10 x 10 and trim it to an 8 x8 for stacking.

You can use the trimmings to make cake balls or petitfores.

A 10x10x4 square cake cut into wedding sized slices will serve 50 people.. 30 cut into party sized slices (1.5x2x4).. you could do a 6" square on top if you wanted to to give you 12 more party sized slices.. That'd give you 42 party sized slices all together.. and it wold look nice too. I like the 4" difference between tiers.. good luck!!

That's the first time I've seen indydebi 's chart. That is way better than the wiltons one. I am switching to her calculations.seem more real to me.
