I'm Not Happy....change Something? Pics

OK, here is one of my cakes for this weekend. It's for a first birthday and the mom wanted to match the decorations. I've attached a pic of the plate and of the cake so far. The big yellow one just seems so plain. Would you leave it or add to it?
I was thinking about cutting out a mmf "1" and putting the hand prints on it then putting it in the middle of the yellow one, but would that be to much?
Why does this have to be so hard? And advise would be welcomed.
THANKS!
You have done a fantastic job replicating this party theme!
I think it would also look darling to have the white "1" with handprints inside the yellow "1", but IMO it wouldn't look "as much" like the plate.
Regardless of what you do...YOUR WORK IS AMAZING! ![]()
Since your # 1 is not cut the same way as the 1 on the decor could you possibly pipe the design of the little boy on the one and that would make the yellow not stand out so much.
Other than that you did a great job!!
I would definitely add the little boy onto the 1 where he is on the invite! That would be extremely cute!
I really wanted to do the baby in fondant, I think that would look perfect- but I don't really have the time to make him (since I know I would fuss over him for an hour or so...)
I just cut out a #1 in paper the shape of the #1 on the plate and it looks...OK....so I'm gonna try the handprints on it.
Fondant I can do....it's these butter cream cakes that freak me out. I don't think I've every done a bc cake and walked away saying...now that cute....oh curses you bc icing!!!
Thanks so much for the feedback. You are are great!!!!!!!
yep, i agree with the others... go for the hand prints. cute chubby little baby fingers. be sure and post a pic when you are done!
Those additions were perfect. As lapazlady said, great final product!
Your cake looks great! I was just going to add that you can do things like a baby head with buttercream. I have one posted in my cakes that I did. I think that I just got a round cake pan, pressed it slightly into the icing, and then piped in flesh colored icing with a tip. Then I smoothed it (being gentle) with Viva. It was for someone who did not want any fondant on their cake. I love the handprints that you did!
SLK - I think the cake is great! That was a great finishing touch!

Gorgeous!!! What was the customers reaction? ![]()
Thanks everyone for your positive feedback.
The dad was there when I dropped it off and he really liked it. He said she would flip over it.....I called and left her a message this afternoon to see what she thought, but have not heard back from her yet. Everyone else there at the party loved it....
THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
