I would say it was a 4 layer cake if it had 4 layers of cake and 3 layers of filling. I have never referred to a cake as "torted" to anyone other than another baker.

A 2 layer cake torted, if you actually baked 2 cakes and torted each one.

Am I weird but I don't call it a "torted cake" -- I will refer to it as a filled cake...

I call it torted, but then I usually have to explain what torted means. icon_rolleyes.gif

I read this thread as I never knew what you guys were talking about when people on this forum said 'torted' - you mean cut and filled with buttercream (ot whatever) right?

Yes, torting mean to cut a layer in two (or more) layers and fill.
