You can buy a large, variety box of chalk pastels at Michael's, JoAnn's, Hobby Lobby, etc. and grate the sticks into a fine powder with a microplane grater or by grinding it through a small tea strainer. You can easily mix custom colors this way. To lighten a shade, you can mix in some cornstarch. This is a lot cheaper than buying petal dusts in the small pots.
