How Early Is To Early To Decorate?

Hello!
I'm making my first wedding cake for Friday july 27th. It is for my good friend, and I am pretty much an honary bridesmaid (she's not having any actual ones...but that dosn't mean I don't "get" to help).
Anyway's, I figure if I make the cake on Wednesday, July 25th, I will have enough time to not get freaked out (I'm nervous), and I would have plenty of time to fix any mistakes that might happen. Also, it will give me enough time to clean everything up, and be able to help the bride finsih the last minute details on Thursday, and also be able to spend time with friends that are in town for the wedding.
So, is Wednesday morning/afternoon too early to make and decorate a cake for a 5pm Friday wedding? If not, what is the best way to store/cover them in the refridgerator until I leave to deliver the cake?
Thanks for all of your help!! I appreciate this website so much, I wouldn't be able to accomplish what I do without all of you!

It takes me about a week to do a wedding cake. With any cake I start several days ahead doing decorations out of gumpaste or whatever else I can do way ahead. I start baking 3-4 days ahead, wrapping with seran wrap right out of the oven, and refridgerating or freezing if I think it's neeeded. Then I start icing 2 days ahead and decorating 1-2 days depending on the detail. Doing things as early as possible relieves some stress (there will always be stress). I work a full time job elsewhere, so maybe you have more time than me, but I wouldn't wait until Wednesday.
I feel for you, even though you aren't the actual brides maid, I've been in your shoes. I was my friend's only brides maid and made the cake. 2 hours before rehearsal, I dropped the 16" bottom layer onto the floor after filling and icing it, while I was trying to get it into the fridge.
Monday?? with flowers etc... if none at least bake your cakes and get them out of the way. If you want all that extra time plan for it done by thursday... I would say.
I usually bake on thursday for a saturday wedding, so that should be fine to do your baking on wednesday. I, however, don't decorate that early, so I can't say how that will work out, but I would think it would be okay. Is the cake all white or are there colors involved, as colors could bleed?
Thanks for your help! I work a full time job also, and I took time off of work to be able to make the cake and have time to see friends. The cake will be all white (or with minimal color), with a ribbon at the bottom, but I can put that on the day of the wedding.
I will take a look at the "timing question" thread and hopefully that will help me out alot.
Thanks!
LJ
I would bake and freeze as early as possible if you have the room in the freezer. you can make up buttercream and stick that in the fridge too. Possibly do your fillings early in the week, depending on what they are.
