I am currently working on a cake that I have iced with bc. I have made MMF decorations to put on the sides of the cake. Is it better to attach mmf with royal icing or would the bc work? I have to transport the cake about 20mile and I don't want them to come off. Also, if I am wanting to add decorations on top of the MMF decorations, is it better to use royal or bc? Can you tell this is my first time using MMF? icon_wink.gif Thanks for any and all help! Angie

I don't think you'd want to use royal icing to hold it on, because the fat in the buttercream icing will break down the royal icing.

I was thinking that maybe the bc would break down the MMF or soften it. Has anyone had problems with this?

I'm not trying to be contriversial, but I've used royal accents on buttercream before and it's held up quite well, but as a general rule I use buttercream to attach MMF decorations. So far, there haven't been any transportation issues. The whimsical graduation cake in my photos uses MMF attached with buttercream. Hope your cake turns out well!

I haven't used MMF, but I have used BC to attach fondant pieces and it worked fine. The BC has shortening/butter in it and the fondant has shortening also, so they work well together.

I don't see why they won't hold up on BC. I have only always used BC to attach my fondant. I should probably practice using royal icing...maybe one day.
