Does anyone have any tips for covering hexagon shaped cakes with fondant? I am going to be making a wedding cake for a friend Labor day weekend. I have never tried to cover the hexagon with fondant. Any tips or words of wisedom would be great. Thanks icon_wink.gif

Covering a hexagon cake is not much different than covering a square cake. Once you get the fondant on the cake work very quickly starting at the top of one corner, move to the next and so on. Work in small sections going down the cake, gently lifting the bottom and smoothing as you go. Be careful to not stretch the fondant.

If you have rolled out too much fondant, trim most of the excess before you start smoothing. You will probably have to trim some more excess for easier handling.

Once you get it smoothed, a great way to trim the remaining excess is to use a dough cutter. This is a rectangular piece of metal with a handle on the top and a semi-sharp edge at the bottom. They are used to cut dough before weighing for bakeries and pizza places.
