Okay... I just came across a recipe for candy clay, it was my first time hearing of it. So, I looked at a picture of how it has been used, and well it looks like fondant to me. Has anyone used it before? Which do you prefer? What is the difference?

I have used both of them.. and I like both of them.
Candy Clay can get softer than Fondant.
You can make flowers out of Candy Clay.. But I would not recommend making figures out of Candy Clay. It does not hold as well as fondant.

YOu can cover cake beautifully with it like this : everything on this cake is Candy Clay

1 bag of Candy melts ( i never use morsels)
1/3 cup of Corn syrup

Melt them together, ONLY until the candy melts are melted..don't stir too long, the oil will separate from the candy melts.
Color them when it's melted if you want to.

Let it rest until firm (about over night).. then knead like fondant
It will get hard after it is set, so soften it in the microwave
very quickly , about 10 seconds until soft enough to handle.

Don't over heat, it will burn. icon_smile.gif

Thank you.. This is not one of my cakes. But I used to decorate my cakes exactly like this before I started using Fondant. I didn't have a digital camera at that time. It was way , way back.. My wedding cake was like this and the people that made this attached cake made my wedding cake. icon_smile.gif

Candy Clay stays the way it is.. Like Fondant exactly..if it's hot, it's gets soft like Fondant, if it's cold it get very firm.. taste is very different.. Candy Clay is much tastier because it is made of Candy Melts w/c taste almost like white chocolate... icon_smile.gif

I have yet to make my first batch of candy clay and wanted to ask for those of us with no easy access to "candy melts" can I just use normal chocolate pieces as such instead?

I would like to thank everyone for their responses. This is so exciting, I can't wait to try it! Especially since it tastes better than fondant!
