Question About Different Kinds Of Ribbon On Cake!

I was wondering if anybody knows if I can use different styles of ribbon, especially the wired ones. Is it safe to place the wired style on the cakes, are there any I should look for that are grease resistant, and if not what can I do to regular ones so that it doesn't get greasy? ![]()
I've heard that people will cut waxed paper to the size of the ribbon and iron it and the wax will stick to the ribbon and then you peel off the paper and that keeps the ribbon from getting greasy.......other people will rub shortening on a shade lighter ribbon than they're using and it will darken it and then when you put it on the icing it's already greasy so anymore grease won't affect it.......and the one I think I'll try when I need a ribbon is to get some contact paper and lay the ribbon on it and cut it out to the exact size of the ribbon then you've got a sort of plastic backing on the ribbon which will protect it and especially if you are using white bc sometimes the colored ribbons can bleed onto the icing and all of these will keep that from helping too.......hope this helps
I use ribbon on my cakes, If you use wire, the wire should be thin. I find the wire ribbon works best on Sq. & Hex. Since they have the sharp edge look.
