This is the only place I could think to go to help with my situation. I have a crossword puzzle cake for this weekend. I wanted to add a MMF pencil and eyeglasses. How would I go about making the glass part of the glasses. I thought melted Jolly Ranchers but I don't think they make a clear??? What other options do I have. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks SOOOOOOOO Much!

any hard candy I think, what about the clear life savers or white gummy bears? I have also heard of using lollypops. I know that there are clear suckers.

Yippee! I didn't think of lollipops, lifesavers. I was so caught up on Jolly Ranchers I didn't think of anything else. I will go out and look today for something clear or near clear. Thanks so much for your help.

What about using those clear gelatin sheets that I have seen used a lot for the windows in Gingerbread Houses ? HTH

Hmmm.. Try to make just the lens part of the glasses out of fodant and let it dry for a few days.. (folded) then get some piping gel and spread it out to fit (little bit bigger round) the circle of the glasses. let it dry on wax paper.. Then when it's dry you can lift it and add it to your glasses.. Then add another thin layer of fondant (on top) around the lens to keep it in place.. Does this sound doable? Am I making sense???
DOUG IS THIS POSSIBLE????

May sound a bit yucky, but Hall's makes clear cough drops - you could melt those maybe? They're like Jolly Ranchers, just menthol or minty flavored....

There is a method where you dip wire into gelatin and you get a semi-clear gelatin shape. You could then wrap the wire with fondant. Does this make sense? PM me if you have questions.

Since no-one will really eat the glasses anyway, why don't you just cut a piece of transparancy paper or cake bands to the size of the lenses and fit your fondant frames over it?

If they dont need to be edible how about clear vinyl for the lenses? And you can make the frames out of either fondant or royal icing. Good luck. Cheffie icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif
